Having a slow start, a gradual build up as the song progress, and going insane at the end, it reminds me of The Velvet Underground's Heroin. But still, no one can top The Velvets when it comes to being crazy on the last part of a song.
There is a noticeable inclusion of a build up moment right before the demented beat starts, and then a lot of cymbals can be heard crashing, which is really suitable for this kind of approach. What’s stunning about these songs that goes from insanely sane to crazy and stops at that, is that how it accompanies you from a relaxed moment to a hyper state and leaves you hanging.
I love how they strategically placed Somebody Else’s Child, a hidden track succeeding Family Friend some seconds later, after an obstreperous chorus as it perfectly wraps up the “getting high” atmosphere.
Another thing that I love about The Vaccines is that they make you feel like you’re listening to a vintage record but there’s still that modern music vibe. They’re probably one of the best bands around in our time.
