The preceding album, Mylo Xyloto was all about them creating a splash of life over a dull and lifeless atmosphere. Like you could actually picture colors and bright lights materialize while you listen.
But with Ghost Stories, which I already somehow predicted when they released their first single off the album, "Magic", they also managed to create the dark, and gloomy feel, melancholic lyrics and tempos, deep vocals and bass-y tracks. Which would make you think that this is the exact opposite of Mylo Xyloto, but no.
Suddenly, this familiar bright splash of colorful music appear halfway through those gloomy music. Depicting a sudden flash of light in the middle of a pitch black night.
A little spark despite of the mourning.
And that, is hope. I think this is what hopeful music really means.
You create the dark and then you create the light too.
Some people might not like the new Coldplay sound, maybe expecting something like A Rush of Blood to the Head Coldplay, but this, my friends, is Coldplay showing off how good they are! You don't just create music like this out of nowhere.
This is genius and imaginative music.
